City Manager & EMC Lon Squyres
The City Manager is responsible for the day to day administration of the city. Lon’s office is located at City Hall and he is available to meet with citizens on a variety of topics. As the Emergency Management Coordinator, Lon is responsible for the preparation for and the response to any disasters that may impact the city or its citizens. Over the past several years this has included extensive recovery efforts following Tropical Storm Allison, and Hurricanes Rita, Ike and Harvey. These efforts include the application for and management of disaster recovery grants which mitigate the damage experienced by our city.
Lon began a life of public service in Jacinto City’s Volunteer Fire Department in 1978 as a volunteer at the age of eighteen. He progressed thru the ranks, serving in various positions culminating with his appointment to his second term as Fire Chief in 1998. He was a member of the original city charter committee which wrote what became the city’s first version of our Home Rule Charter. He also served as the Assistant City Manager for several years before accepting the position of City Manager. Lon is a lifelong resident of Jacinto City. He still maintains a paramedic certification and enjoys riding occasional medic shifts. Lon has been married to his wife Glenda for 30 years and has two daughters Piper and Scarlett.
